Flew on aeroplanes more than a thousand time but never felt the urge to take a photo or selfie with any aircraft or in any airport before.
Few days ago while traveling to Varanasi to witness and capture Dev Diwali, I spotted a NatGeo Airplane (TF-LLL/Boeing 757-256) & from that moment on, I wanted to take a photo of myself with it.
Luckily, I got my chance to take a photo with it while flying back.
Hope one day I will have enough photographic skills to fly with and in this aircraft!

Remembering a Mulla Nasiruddin story…
His friend came to visit him & he wanted to take his friend to his village. However his friend didn’t have a good dress to wear. So, Molla Nasiruddin gave one of his jacket to his friend.
They went to meet the other villagers. When they met the first person, Molla Nasiruddin introduced him saying “meet my friend & that jacket he is wearing is mine”.
His friend got offended & asked him what was the reason to tell the other person that the jacket is not his.
Molla Nasiruddin understood. So, he introduced his friend with 2nd villager saying “he is my friend but the jacket is not his”.
Now his friend got more angry & asked him why are you mentioning that this jacket is not mine.
It seemed like Molla Nasiruddin understood what he needs to do next clearly. So, he introduced his friend to the 3rd villager saying “meet my friend & we better not talk about his jacket”.
My condition was exactly like Molla Nasiruddin’s friend yesterday!

Lifetime Experience
A life time experience!
(Sorry for the long narration)
I was in Karaikudi for a family vacation two weeks ago. My photographer friend Kumaragadu Panaliappan from Chennai was also nearby visiting his native home to attend their village’s temple function at Sivaganga around 30KM away from Karaikudi. He offered to take me to a nearby Jallikattu event.
This was a little different type of Jallikattu. Teams brought their bulls to an open field & released them. The ferocious bulls, once released of their tight reigns, try to run whichever way they wish. Some people try to stop these bulls in fun but it is definitely a dangerous game to play and even witness. Unlike in other Jallikattu events where bulls have a definite path to run on, these bulls could come from any direction and at any moment. You can easily get hurt if the bull decides to come your way.
I went in the field expecting some good photographs. At first when I heard my name being called, I thought I imagined someone calling me due to the scorching heat, my panting as I was running quite a bit to get a shot and the hordes of people shouting around me.
But I was wrong, a person was really calling me. He came to me & told me that he & his friends are my fans and that they love my colorful photographs. They told me that they often visit my website. Infact, they showed me some of my photographs saved on their phone and I saw two of my photographs in two of their phones’ wallpapers!
Mind you, they were NOT photographers! They were very simple people staying 450KM away from Chennai who did not even speak any language I spoke. People I had never met and who had no way of knowing me apart from knowing me through my photography.
Meeting them and hearing them say that they were fans of my photographs was an experience I will never forget…
A photographer’s dream is to be recognized and acknowledged by people unrelated to the field of photography.
They felicitated me with a scarf they brought to honor the courage and strength of those who could stop their bull during the event. Receiving this honor from them was probably the best gift I could earn as a photographer.
I do not know if anyone from the group follows me or not on this page. But if you are, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am really moved by your gesture & this scarf is & will always be one of the most cherished memory in my life.

Vacation time photography
Usually in a hill station there is not much to do after sundown. All day I was out for photography and am back at the hotel by the evening. For me, there is nothing better than spending quality time with photographs, clicking them during the day and watching others at night even when I am on a vacation. Luckily, Seenshot Society asked me to judge their National Contest and I am immersed in looking at fantastic photographs under a cozy blanket in a rustic timber hotel room at Kodaikanal. What a great way to spend a vacation!!

Am I AT a lake or IN a lake? A lesson in prepositions? No… I actually was both AT and IN a lake. It’s really true… Here is what happened…
On a photo trip this morning in Bangalore, some locals tipped us about a scenic lake nearby. We dutifully looked up Google maps and located a rather large one indeed nearby. It is called Hesaraghatta Lake. With high hopes of finding some great flora and fauna considering it was such a large water body just off city limits, we drove fast following the map and landed here! We had driven right into the dry lake and were standing at its center!
Could not spot any wild flora and fauna, even after standing atop my car as if I was on a wildlife tour in some wild forest. Finally, photographed the next best ones around, me! [Pic: Rahul Ranjan]
